Day 14

“A song that reminds you of your boyfriend/girlfriend.”

I love my Michael. When we first started getting serious I told him we needed to talk, privately. He came and picked me up and we drove to the park. We sat in his car and I told him about my diagnosis (PTSD), what led to my diagnosis (multiple traumas) and the symptoms and issues I struggle(d) with. I also told him about the kids’ diagnoses (Rian – ADHD, OCD, Anxiety, Suicidal Ideation, Depression, she’s since been diagnosed with Aspergers as well. And Alexi – ADHD, Anxiety and PTSD).

I explained that I wanted to be completely up front with him. I wanted him to know what he was getting himself into. I wanted him to have the option to say “ok, I can’t deal with all of that” and walk away before we became too involved (a couple of friends advised me not to tell him anything until he was in love with me, but I thought that was mean).

But he didn’t walk away. He said he thought I was worth it. Even after we’d been together for 5 months and I had a major break down and told him I didn’t think I could see him anymore he didn’t give up. He loves me. He loves my kids. God has blessed me a thousand times over with this man (even when he drives me nuts).

Here’s Jason Mraz’s “I Won’t Give Up” for my Michael.

  1. How beautiful! What a great love note to Michael! And I agree, I think it was the right thing to do by telling him in advance 🙂
